Great guy! Came over to check out my roof as the cause of a leak in the kitchen. He and his crew got up on the roof, found the damage/broken shingles, and had everything replaced in under an hour! Showed me all the damaged shingles, explained how the water was getting in, and how the repairs would stop the issue. I'll definitely call him again if there's another problem.

They replaced the roof on our townhouse in October 2014. It was done fast and reasonably priced. Many contractors I contact either don't return calls or are hard to get. Steve returned my initial inquiry for an estimate while he was on vacation overseas. He was on site most of the time too. Overall good experience - would recommend to others.

I called regarding a leak in our upstairs attic. They sent Antonio out the same day, who was able to identify the problem as a leak with the plumbing vent instead of the roof. He answered all my questions and recommended I contact a plumber for my repair. Afterwards, Mr. Smith contacted us via phone to make sure we understood what next steps to take to prevent home damage. I am reviewing them because they were courteous and helpful, and honest with what the problem could be. Hands down, one of the best customer experience I've had in the DMV! On Friday evening, Smith Roofing responded to my request within an hour, when all roofers in North Virginia were closed. To top it off, they had a crew come out soon after the weekend and repaired my roof leak and defective Dryer vent within two hours. The crew was kind, respectful, and kept me informed on all the work that was to be done. They cleaned up after themselves as if nothing happened. Highly recommended for all homeowners!

I used Smith Roofing to do my roof on Marshall Pond Road. He did a fast, high quality job, showed up when he said he was going to, and added some extra touches such as replacing my attic fan with a full ridgevent (a greener solution) and painting the exhaust pipes to match the shingles. It looks great, and he did it all for a very reasonable price: at least $4k less than what my neighbor paid for a slightly smaller roof last year!

The owner, George, responded very quickly and thoroughly explained the process via email and phone. They are a godsend and they know their stuff!!! I bought my house new 6 years ago. Ever since then, i have had leaks multiple times/yr after almost every major storm or high winds. Even had some of my shingles blow off and damage neighbors cars. The original roofer contracted by my association blamed it on the position of my townhouse style condo and its subjectivity to wind. I didnt buy it and finally requested a new roofer. Smith roofing was called and they immediately saw that my shingles were incorrectly installed (nailed too high so any high winds would rip the shingles off my roof). When it finally got warm, Smith roofing came out and replaced the entire roof (May 2015) and Ive had no leaks or blown shingles yet (there's has been a few high wind storms). They even thoroughly cleaned up after themselves. He is very busy and took longer than expected to come out and replace the roof, but made up for it with the quality of work. It was worth the wait.

George Smith, the owner, promptly sent a worker to evaluate the repairs that needed to be made, provided an explanation and estimate for the job and scheduled the day to do it. He kept me updated on the progress of the job scheduled before mine. The repairmen arrived on time and completed the work expeditiously. They checked the entire roof for potential future problem areas and corrected them as well. They cleaned up carefully before leaving. The bill was the same as the estimate and seemed reasonable for the work that was done. I would definitely use Smith Roofing again.

What an amazing company! Everyone was great. I called after a heavy rain when I discovered a leak. The owner, George Smith, called back right away and came out immediately to assess the work. My roof is very old and so I asked him to fix some broken shingles as well and to take a look at the roof when the workman was up there to see if there were any other issues. The leak was from an old attic fan. The fix involved removing the fan, filling in the hole with new board and then adding new shingles. The price he quoted was excellent and very reasonable, And, he was able to take care of the work the next day. The employee who did the work was fabulous and had worked for George for more than 20 years. He did an excellent job cutting the wood and filling in the hole and used that special, more expensive covering that tightly wraps around the nail so that it doesn't leak. He took a bunch of before and after photos that George sent to me after the work was completed. In addition, while up on the roof the worker noticed several more broken singles and fixed those AND cleaned out my very dirty gutters for no additional cost! George said that my roof would now have several more good years. I can't say enough positive things about George Smith and Smith Roofing. When it's time, I plan to use them for the new roof as well.

These guys were great. When I first telephoned, the boss answered the phone, and walked me through some steps that could have enabled me to find the mysterious leak on my own that had been bedeviling me for years. When that didn't work, he sent his employee over. The three of us were on the phone together while his employee searched for the leak. During two of the hottest days of the year, the employee was up on the roof trying to locate the leak. He did so and fixed it, right before we had a week of hard rains. Then, when the bill came, it was so low I thought it must have been a mistake - - so I added another 70% to show my appreciation for the time and attention that Smith paid to my problem.

Two years ago I had George Smith look at my roof and give me an estimate on replacement. He told me I did NOT have to replace my roof but suggested some repair if I did not replace, which I did. This year I needed to replace my roof because of some buckling wood and I contacted Smith Roofing again. I was so pleased with my initial contact, the price and the honesty I did not bother getting any additional estimates. I was honestly shocked by the efficiency, neatness, and quality work. I had a roof replaced once before and there were nails around my property, etc, afterwards. I even go outside now every once and a while just to look at the roof. The shingles that he recommended are a better complement to my house than the ones they replaced. I recommend George Smith Roofing wholeheartedly.

He climbed up, inspected everything and told me it didn’t need a re-placing yet. Said everything looked good and we should get another few years out of it. While on the roof for the bid, he made a small repair to address a potential source of leaking and told me I could wait a year to have the whole roof redone. A year later I had the roof done. The crew was efficient and got the work done in less time than expected. George inspected the job and at the end, provided photos of the roof from during the work and the finished roof.

Smith Roofing is an outstanding Company. A friend in my church referred to Smith Roofing company to me. In early January 2020, George, the owner, set an appointment with me to inspect my roof, he promptly arrived on time the next morning for his appointment. He was professional in mapping out his roof project plan for my home accordingly to my expectations. He provided an estimate soon after the meeting. George had more than enough patience to help me understand his crew’s process to replace my roof. Even though I have a steep roof and “a lot of roof,” George was able to provide me with an estimate with very competitive prices and good quality of supply materials and shingles. His patience was outstanding. At the end of March 2020, just a few days before starting my roof, I changed my mind; not only did I want to switch to a different shingles’ color, but I also wanted to upgrade the level of my shingles. He professionally worked with me through my new selection and helped me to get the new shingles’ color correctly. He also helped me to resubmit my change to my Home Owner Association (HOA) for permission again. Due to the weather dictating our schedule, George and his crew had to start on Sunday. He had an outstanding and skillful crew. They finished my roof half day earlier than their projection. Their cleanup was superb. After four weeks, I have not found even one nail leftover in my yard. I asked them to clean some of the siding supplies leftovers from their previous project, and I would compensate for their labor in the invoice. Ironically, the crew did not even want to charge me. My roof has been done for a month now. Even as I am writing this survey, I still have not paid George because my insurance paperwork has not been fully processed yet. I informed George that I would quickly pay him upon receiving the check from the insurance company. With the soft economy due to Coronavirus, Mr. Smith has shown outstanding patience in waiting for the insurance company to pay for the work. George has not even once requested from my payment for his service. If I could rate him 10 stars instead of 5, I would have done so. Thank you, George!

We hired them to install roof vents for our bathroom fans. While there, the workmen discovered that the rubber collars for 4 vent pipes were disintegrating. They replaced them with no guarantee that we would be willing to pay for them. They took before and after pictures to show us and of course, we paid for them and are very grateful that they saved us from leak damage. They are an excellent company and when it comes time for us to replace our roof we will call them first.

George Smith told me from the get-go he wouldn't do a hard sell and he didn't. He explained the products he uses and explained everything and answered all of my questions. He didn't rush me at all, and he gave me addresses of local houses he had worked on so I could look at the colors of the roofs to help me decide. It took us a while to move on the project, and he honored the price he had quoted me about seven months earlier. He was below the other two I bids I got by at least $1K. They finished the roof in under two days. I did find a small amount of trash in my yard for a few months afterward, but it was nominal. I highly recommend Smith Roofing.

Our experience with Smith Roofing has been excellent. Twice over the past few years, we've had emergency repairs done to our roof with George Smith arranging for assessments, speedy work, and photos. Our roof reached the end of its functional life this year. Smith Roofing replaced it, scheduling the work with the flexibility we needed. Mr. Smith discussed the scope of work in detail in advance, which was instructive and helpful. The work was completed as scheduled, with a large work crew arriving early in the morning, working all day, and cleaning up thoroughly when the one-day project was done. That night we received photos of the roof. Mr. Smith is professional, pleasant, direct, listens carefully, and has a responsive and pleasant work crew. We'd hire him again in a minute.

We just had our roof replaced by Smith Roofing. It was an excellent job at a reasonable price, and all done in a single day (a crew of 9 or so on the roof and 3 to deliver the roofing material). I cannot recommend Smith Roofing highly enough. I would only make one comment for the benefit of Smith Roofing. When the materials were delivered, I was asked to sign an indemnification form to relieve the company of any liability in case the truck hoisting the materials to the roof should damage the driveway. My driveway is old, and no damage occurred in any case, but the fact that I had to sign the paper meant that such damage does occur on occasion. It would been better warning to customers in advance that this form would need to be signed. I can imagine the discomfort of someone with a pristine driveway being put on the spot with a crew waiting to work. A small point, and irrelevant in the end to my house. I'll close by saying what a pleasure it was to work with Mr. Smith--low key, no hard sell, and efficiently performed job, and great results.

I called Mr. Smith about two roof leaks. One was from our vent that needed a new collar and the other was around our skylight. He gave me an estimate over the phone and said he would send one of his roofers out the same day even though we were expecting a thunderstorm. The workman came and not only took care of the two problem areas but also sealed around one of our other vents and put down some shingles that he noticed were missing at no extra cost! We were invoiced the same amount as Mr. Smith's original estimate and he told us to let him know if we had any additional problems with the work that was done. I am so happy to find someone who is honest, prompt, and interested in satisfying his customers! If you have a roofing problem, call Mr. Smith. You won't be disappointed!

We used Checkbook to research the potential roof contractors in our area. We researched many roofing products and met with 7 roofing contractors, most of who are in Checkbook, before deciding upon Smith Roofing. We received roofing estimates within a wide range. We had decided on the Certainteed Landmark Pro early on and wanted to select a highly reputable contractor that we had the confidence to install the product with reliability at a fair price. Mr. Smith’s company was the right choice. His crew was very professional and cleaned up daily during the two-day job. I had a leaky skylight and Mr. George Smith of Smith Roofing was courteous and prompt with an inspection and repair estimate. When I accepted the estimate, the work was scheduled and completed promptly. I never got the feeling that this work was less important than a whole re-roof job. I highly recommend Smith Roofing and will definitely contact them should I need further repairs or a new roof.

A very pleasant experience. No drama. Everything was professionally done. Workers were competent and mannerly. The owner was constantly in contact and I always knew where we were at and where we were going. The price was fair and equitable. I called Smith Roofing based on recommendations from reading Checkbook. Mr. Smith is GREAT. He inspected my roof, said it still had some life to it and if I did not want to replace it now, I should do some repair. He walked me through options on material and showed me pictures of what needed to be repaired. He sent me an estimate on what it would take to replace and to repair. I decided to get the repair. There have been a number of roofs replaced in my neighborhood in the last few months and I KNOW Mr. Smith's quote was very fair. I will be back in touch with him when I do decide to replace the roof.

We had to wait awhile to get our roof fixed but it was worth the wait. George Smith is super honest and I like how he photographs what they did so you can actually see (without having to climb on the roof yourself!). I highly recommend this roofing co.

Mr Smith was able to replace my roof one week after providing his estimate. He provided pictures before, during, and after the roof was replaced. He also provided a 50 year shingle for the price of the 25 year shingle. Other roofing companies had a one month wait time just to provide their estimate. Ground was clean and free of any nails. Smith Roofing is the only company with 100% price and quality ratings by customers.

Mr. Smith came to the house, climbed up and looked the roof over. He said it would probably last two to three more years but I opted to have it replaced. I felt his quoted price for the work was very reasonable. Initially, my home was scheduled a few weeks out but he called a day or two later to say he had room in his schedule. His crew showed up and did a great job. Mr. Smith followed up and I couldn't be happier with choosing him to do the work.

I contacted the three highest rated roofers for a ceiling leak I discovered the night before. One said he would get back to me soon, a second said he was too busy. Smith Roofing said he would have someone look at it sometime that day, and that it probably was a ridge vent. A few hours later there was a knock on the door; one of Smith's workers appeared, looked at the ceiling, then went out and climbed up to the roof. There were some hammering sounds. A short time later he came down and said he found loose nails and shingles on the ridge vent. He replaced them and sealed all the affected areas. The next day I received a very reasonable invoice, which I gladly paid immediately. I am 100% satisfied. While I never received an estimate, whether because of miscommunication or some other reason, I have no complaints. My roof leak was taken care of in one day, even though we have had the fourth rainiest July in recorded history.

This is a first-class roofing company. Small, with only 4 roofers, so if you want them, there is usually a month backup, especially in the summer. But here is an indication of how solid they are. All four roofers have worked for Smith for 19 years. Quite impressive. I had gotten an estimate in mid-summer of 2016, but decided to wait until Spring of 2017 to get the roofing done. They honored the 2016 estimate, 9 months later. Left my yard spotless, completed the job in the two days, as promised. Polite and efficient. Can't really comment on the price. They were not the least expensive bid we received, but they had the feel about them for "doing the job right." And they did. Highly recommended.

This job went really well, from initial contact, acceptance of proposal (with detailed -- and competitive -- pricing options and alternatives), to the conclusion of cleanup. The crew of two neatly and efficiently removed the existing roof (planning the work to accommodate an overnight shower), and then replaced decayed boards and planks to ensure an optimal surface for what was to follow. What followed was a comprehensive roofing system, engineered by the manufacturer, and installed, component by component and layer by layer. I’m confident it was an expert job, because I read the manufacturers specs and installation instructions and watched as the installers measured and fitted and attached and secured and caulked. I also climbed up and asked questions, which were answered with complete (and good-natured) explanations. I saw that the men worked with skill, precision, and care. The job took most of three windy days, and I was glad to see the crew rigged for safety and handling themselves with confidence and care. The wind also meant that some of the debris headed for the truck was carried away, and I was concerned about cleanup, which was very thorough. In the two months since, I’ve come up with (I think) four nails and five scraps of old roofing felt – probably caught in shrubs and dropped later.

I needed some flashing and shingles replaced. They were quick to respond, and easy to schedule with. Their rough estimate was lower than others I contacted, and the invoice came in at that number with no surprises. The owner took photos on his phone of what they were doing up there, and showed them to me. He also talked to me about the expected life of the roof, etc. Overall very professional, trust-worthy, and efficient.
